What type of photography do you shoot?

I specialize in portrait photography, shooting mainly seniors, engagements and couples, bridals, boudoir, maternity, newborns, and family portraits.

Where will the session be?

I prefer natural light, on-location photography to create the most natural looking images.  I can come to your preferred location.  That means your house, your yard, your favorite park, that really great building down the street – the options are endless!  And of course, being in the Dallas area, we have wonderful photographic opportunities throughout the city and suburbs if you want a more urban feel.  If you're not sure about a location, I can suggest some as well.

What is the best time of day to schedule a session?

For outdoor portraits, very early morning (starting no later than 9:00 a.m.) and late afternoon/early evening (about 2 hours before sunset) provide the most flattering light. Midday sun is harsh and produces hard shadows, although if there is sufficient shade such as tree cover, we can shoot at any time of the day. For indoor natural light portraits, early morning to mid-afternoon is best. Most importantly, let's choose a time of day when the youngsters in the family are at their peak and will be well rested and fed beforehand. It is better to schedule the session when everyone is at their happiest time of day even if it means less than ideal lighting conditions!

How long does a session last?

Length will depend on the session, but in general the session will usually last anywhere from one to three hours with as many stops as are needed, especially when working with young children.  It's critical that we allow enough time for your child to relax and move beyond the plastered-on smile phase.

What should we wear?

Clothing is really up to you!  Jeans are always good — the darker the better. For families, please don't try to match, but you should consider outfits that complement each other (such as all earth tones) or are all differing shades of the same color. A great rule of thumb is to choose one item (like your daughter's skirt), and coordinate the rest of the family's outfits around that skirt. If you were to put all your family's clothing on one person, would it all coordinate? Mix patterns, textures, colors, and accessories for an interesting and creative look! And don't forget your feet!  Shoes are just as important because they will show in pictures. Nothing ruins a picture like a great outfit with scruffy sneakers.  Sometimes though, bare feet also make for great pictures! Clothing changes are fine but try not to have more than one or two — kids tend to get fussy when changed too much. See Making the Most for a whole page of clothing tips.

How much does everything cost?

Clients anticipate investing between $1,100-$2,500 for the session AND to receive all digital images, as well as custom boutique creations (prints, albums, canvases, etc.) for display in their home. Please visit our Rates page for more information.

Do you shoot weddings?

At this point, I do not shoot weddings. Weddings require more time and equipment than I am willing to invest in right now, so I only shoot bridals and engagements.

Do you ever do work with models?

Goldapple Photography is always open to working with models on updating their portfolios. If interested in a model session, please let us know what our discounted rate is. We love to try out new concepts and locations on our model clients.

Will you post my pictures online?

Not without your express written permission. Our sneak peeks posted on the blog are there only after a client has given permission and signed a model release for us to be able to use them. We greatly encourage clients to let us pick three to five images for a sneak peek to give them a taste of how the session went, but we also completely respect every client's privacy. Online proofing galleries are posted in a secure web gallery that only you have the password for. You can choose to share that password for others to view your gallery.

Can I purchase unedited photographs? How about if I just wanted them on a CD?

Goldapple Photography is as much about posing as it is about the digital editing of the photographs. Each image receives special attention for exposure, contrast, and color. These together create a uniform style which we are known for and strive to upkeep. We do not sell unedited images. It's very common at this time to offer a CD with all of your digital files on them.  I do offer two options – you can purchase individual high-resolution images on CD, or you can purchase your entire online gallery on CD.

What should I have on hand for the shoot?

If you plan to be photographed in more than one outfit, bring the alternate outfit(s) for everyone in the portrait as well as appropriate shoes and hosiery. If you have a baby or toddler, bring along whatever you need to keep your child clean and happy: diapers, wipes, snacks, etc. Please also bring a favorite toy that makes noise, as I may need to use it as an attention-getting tool. For kids of all ages, feel free to bring a favorite doll, toy, blanket, musical instrument or other hobby item, etc. that you may wish to include in the portrait.

Why does custom photography cost more than a 19-cent print from Walmart?
