~Making the Most of Your Session~
~Moms and Dads, please do not change your child’s ‘everyday’ schedule to accommodate pictures: If children eat or nap at certain times, honor this – they will be much happier if you do. And, please reschedule if baby/child just had its shots – your little one(s) will thank you for this, too.
~Be sure the person being photographed is well-rested! A little one that is well-rested will be much easier to photograph. Keep naptimes in mind when you schedule your appointment. I know it’s hard day to day to know how your child will react, but we have a much better chance of getting great pictures if the session doesn’t interrupt his/her schedule.
~Coordinate your family’s clothing so that the colors and patterns complement each other, but you don’t want matchy-matchy outfits; flair and interest are added to images with texture and pattern. When you schedule your session, you will receive a welcome packet with more detailed clothing tips and examples.
~Is your neck short or do you have a full face? Then wear a shirt/blouse that has a scoop or v-neck neckline. Do you have along or slender neck? A shirt/blouse with a high neck or a turtleneck will look best.
~For portraits with more than one person, dress everyone in similar style clothing–informal or formal. You don’t want to confuse the look you are trying to convey.
~Lighter colors tend to accentuate body size. Dark colors tend to diminish a fuller figure. Try not to mix light and dark colors if more than one person is being photographed together. Light shades will be washed out by the sun and sky, and dark shades provide too stark a contrast to daylight, so choose a medium color that will complement your figure.
~Coordinate your attire from head to toe! You never know when a full length picture might be the one shot you really like! Shoes should be classic, plain and match the outfit.
~Your jewelry should match your personality and your clothing. Accessories can add so much detail to an image!
~If you want to wear glasses in your photograph, call your eye doctor and see if you can borrow a pair of your frames without the lenses. We will try our best to keep your glasses from reflecting light.
~Don’t try a new haircut or “look” right before your session. Always give a few weeks time in case of a disaster! Photographs, in most cases, turn out better when you look like your natural self. Also, please keep tanning to a minimum right before your session.
~Ladies, even if you do not usually wear make-up, I encourage you to wear a slight amount to make your skin look its best. A little foundation and mascara always makes a person look a little better because the foundation smoothes the skin, and mascara opens the eyes up and makes them brighter. If you do not know how to apply make-up, you can go to any mall store like Dillard’s or Macy’s and have a makeover done for free. I would suggest you do it a few weeks before so you can see if you like the look and to make sure you don’t have an allergic outbreak to the make up! If you like the look, you can always go back right before the session and have them do it again. Please do not wear any make up or lotion that contains glitter or is metallic in content. The glitter or metallic elements will reflect the light and trust me, it is not a good look!
~Bring along any blankets, toys or props that are special to you or your child to be photographed with your child. These really personalize your portraits!
~If you have a special pose in mind, please feel free to let me know. These are your photographs, not mine. I want them to have special meaning to you. If you have a pose in mind that your other children had at a certain age, bring the photograph in and I will try my best to recreate it.
